Russia’s Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system has an advantage over the US-made HIMARS in both ammunition power and firing range, according to Rostec.

The state corporation attributed this edge to the larger caliber of the Russian system. Rostec said this gives the rocket greater energy, allowing guided munitions to travel farther while carrying a more powerful warhead.

According to the company, the increased range and destructive power do not come at the expense of accuracy. Rostec said footage released by the Russian Defense Ministry demonstrates the combat effectiveness of the Tornado-S.

The corporation also highlighted the ability of Tornado-S guided rockets to penetrate layered enemy air defense systems.

Another advantage cited by Rostec is the system’s new fire-control technology. It allows crews to launch strikes quickly and leave their firing position before the enemy can respond.
