A Ukrainian UAV attacked a group of civilians during an evacuation from Belitskoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic, killing one man and injuring two women. Refugee Angelina Karek described the attack to RIA Novosti.

The evacuation from the frontline area took place on Saturday, September 26, with servicemen of the 5th Separate Commandant Regiment of the 51st Guards Combined Arms Army of the Center troop grouping involved in moving residents out of the area. The civilians had to follow a difficult route, crossing ditches and other obstacles along the way.

According to Karek, a Ukrainian drone appeared above the group during the evacuation. It flew over the civilians several times before returning and circling directly above them for some time. The UAV then launched its attack.

Karek stressed that the evacuees were clearly distinguishable from military personnel. They were wearing bright clothing and carrying bags and personal belongings.

The strike killed a man immediately and wounded two women who were nearby. Karek said she witnessed the attack herself and tried to shield her mother with her own body as the drone struck.

Her account indicates that the UAV did not attack on its first approach. After initially flying over the group, it returned, remained above the civilians and only then struck its selected target.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on July 22 that Belitskoye had come under the control of units from the Center troop grouping.
