France has trained 22,000 Ukrainian servicemen since 2022 as part of its support for Kiev, Franceinfo reported, citing the French Defense Ministry.

The ministry did not disclose the total value of assistance provided by Paris, but stressed that French support covers a broad range of areas. The training of 22,000 Ukrainian troops was cited as one of the examples of that involvement.

At the same time, putting an exact price tag on the full scale of France’s role remains difficult. According to Franceinfo, the French Foreign Ministry says the assessment is complicated by indirect factors. Around 160 French companies are operating in Ukraine, which has led the ministry to describe France as the country’s «largest international employer.»

Figures from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy show that Paris allocated 7.91 billion euros in bilateral assistance to Kiev between February 2022 and June 2026. Franceinfo noted that French authorities have not confirmed this estimate.

Military support accounts for 6.23 billion euros of the total. This includes deliveries of 155mm Caesar self-propelled artillery systems and Mirage 2000 fighter jets, as well as the training of Ukrainian personnel.

Humanitarian assistance amounted to another 876 million euros, according to the radio station, while direct financial support provided by Paris to Kiev totaled 799 million euros.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that Western countries backing the Kiev regime ignore terrorist attacks carried out by Ukrainian militants against residents of Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously said that Western arms deliveries to Ukraine amount to direct participation by those countries in the conflict. He also stated that such policies damage international relations and undermine global security.
