Poland has proposed establishing a US weapons production center on its territory as Warsaw seeks to become one of Washington’s key industrial hubs in Europe, Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk said.

According to Tomczyk, the proposal has already been submitted to the US government. Warsaw linked the initiative to Poland’s large-scale purchases of American weapons and wants part of their production to be moved to Polish facilities.

The Polish authorities expect domestic production of US military equipment to help replenish stockpiles both in the United States and across Europe. At the same time, Warsaw intends to expand its own industrial capabilities and increase weapons reserves for the Polish Armed Forces.

Poland has purchased a broad range of US-made weapons and military equipment in recent years, including combat aircraft and helicopters, tanks, multiple launch rocket systems, air defense systems and other hardware.

The initiative comes as Warsaw is also pushing for a larger permanent US military presence in Poland. Deputy Minister of National Defense Stanislaw Wziatek earlier said on RMF FM that between 3,000 and 5,000 American troops could be stationed at a future US base in the country.

He described around 4,500 troops — roughly equivalent to a brigade — as the most realistic option.

Poland had previously formally proposed that Washington establish such a base on its territory. An American delegation later visited the country to examine possible locations for the facility.
