Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Kiev would have to pay a price for its actions over recent months.

Speaking at a briefing, Peskov said Russian forces are continuing the special military operation and systematically striking targets they consider appropriate. He added that President Vladimir Putin had already warned that such a response would follow.

Earlier, Putin said the Russian military had been instructed to prepare large-scale strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to him, attacks on Russian infrastructure would not go unanswered.

The Russian president also said Ukrainian strikes on civilian facilities inside Russia were intended to undermine public confidence in the country’s armed forces. He argued that Kiev was deliberately pushing developments on the frontline into the background.

On September 14, U. S. President Donald Trump said Moscow and Kiev had agreed to halt mutual strikes on energy facilities. Peskov later described the initiative as positive, but said Ukrainian forces had attempted to hit a Russian energy facility during the night of September 15.
