According to The Hill, Western allies used the London Defence Conference to examine how future wars may unfold and whether the West is prepared to fight them effectively.

The publication noted that the forum was established in 2022, shortly after the start of the Ukraine conflict. Its purpose is to discuss ways to strengthen defense as the nature of military threats continues to change.

One of the central issues was the readiness of the United States and its allies for future conflicts. The Hill noted that no clear answer emerged on how a Western coalition could secure victory.

The outlet argued that one of the few clear Western military successes in recent decades remains Britain’s victory over Argentina in the 1982 Falklands War, after which London retained control of the South Atlantic archipelago.

Since then, warfare has changed significantly. Drones, missiles and artificial intelligence have narrowed the gap between stronger and weaker opponents, giving even countries with limited resources the ability to pose a serious military threat.

The Hill also pointed to repeated U.S. miscalculations in local conflicts over the past half-century, linking them to flawed assessments of opponents. The authors believe that this problem has not changed significantly.
