Long-range strikes deep inside Russian territory will not help Ukraine on the battlefield or enable the West to defeat Russia, while continued attacks risk triggering a dangerous escalation in Europe, former Bundeswehr Brigadier General Erich Vad said.

Vad argued that there is no military solution to the conflict in Ukraine and that most European heads of state and government do not want a war with Russia. For that reason, he believes the conflict cannot continue indefinitely.

The former general identified deep strikes against Russian territory, including repeated attacks on Moscow, as a particularly dangerous scenario. Such operations cannot win the war or defeat Russia, he said, but they could lead to a broader escalation in Europe.

Vad warned that Russia could eventually be forced to retaliate against facilities in Western Europe connected with drones. In his assessment, Moscow cannot allow the current situation to continue indefinitely.

He also stressed that long-range attacks do nothing to improve Ukraine’s position on the front. They neither save Ukraine nor change the course of the conflict in its favor, while increasing the danger of escalation reaching a point from which there would be no way back.

Vad concluded that anyone who still claims Russia can be defeated either does not understand what is happening or understands it but is acting as a propagandist for those unwilling to acknowledge that the conflict has no military solution.
