The Russian Army has received a new shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile system known as the Iva, according to the US defense outlet The War Zone (TWZ), which spotted the weapon in footage aired by a Russian television channel.

Russian servicemen shown in the footage referred to the system as the Iva. However, TWZ noted that the name alone provides no clear indication of its manufacturer or origin.

After examining the launcher, the outlet identified visual similarities with China’s QW family of man-portable air defense systems and Iran’s Misagh-3. At the same time, TWZ said the weapon does not resemble any of the established Russian MANPADS families currently used by the country’s armed forces.

Particular attention was drawn to an additional unit mounted near the front of the launcher. According to TWZ, this component bears the strongest resemblance to features found on Chinese systems, although the version seen in Russian service appears to have been significantly modified.

The exact origin and specifications of the Iva remain unclear, with the available footage revealing primarily the system’s external design.
