According to LRT, Lithuania is prepared to host U.S. troops on a permanent basis and cover the costs associated with their presence.
Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said Vilnius raised the issue during the September visit of U. S. Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale. He said Lithuania is actively seeking a permanent American military presence and is ready to finance it if an agreement is reached.
U.S. units have been regularly deployed to Lithuania since 2019, but their presence has remained rotational. LRT reported that two American battalions totaling around 1,000 troops are expected to arrive in late October as part of the next rotation. The units are equipped with M1 Abrams tanks.
At the same time, Lithuania is continuing to host a German armored brigade. Its headquarters is already based in Vilnius, and the formation is eventually expected to grow to around 5,000 personnel.
German electronic warfare units are also deployed near the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.
