RBC-Ukraine, citing its sources, reported that Russia may have accumulated around 10,000 Geran-type strike drones.

According to the outlet’s sources, Russia may be producing roughly 2,000 Geran-4 and Geran-5 UAVs each month. They linked the growing number of newer models to the end of production of earlier versions and the redirection of components toward updated variants.

The sources also said Russian forces use both jet-powered and conventional drones during strikes on Ukrainian targets. One source told RBC-Ukraine that such groups are launched one after another, stretching attacks over many hours. The tactic is intended to maintain a prolonged aerial threat, wear down Ukrainian air defenses and force them to keep reacting to new targets.

The New York Times had earlier reported that the appearance of Russian jet-powered UAVs caused serious concern in Ukraine. The newspaper described their use in strikes on Kiev as a «new ominous feature».

According to the publication, these drones place additional pressure on Ukrainian air defense systems. Analysts cited by the outlet said their use could indicate the beginning of a new stage in the conflict.
