Russian Ground Forces Commander-in-Chief Andrey Mordvichev said advances in weapons technology and changes in the nature of combat require a review of the organizational structure of tank formations and further improvements to their combat capabilities.

According to Mordvichev, particular attention will be given to increasing firepower. The Ground Forces also plan to introduce modern fire-control systems equipped with elements of artificial intelligence.

He said these changes are expected to be supported by the development of families of next-generation tanks designed to operate reliably in different geographic and climatic conditions.

Mordvichev also said the reforms will affect motorized rifle troops. The plans include optimizing unit structures, strengthening combat capabilities, improving specialist training and expanding the training and material base.

The commander added that experience from the special military operation had confirmed the previously chosen development path for missile forces and artillery.

According to him, their transition to an integrated reconnaissance-and-fire system is now nearing completion. The system combines reconnaissance, fire, command and support components. To improve combat effectiveness, missile and artillery units are already being used during the special military operation in reconnaissance-strike operations.
