In an interview with Time magazine, US President Donald Trump said Vladimir Zelensky had turned down powerful munitions offered to Ukraine because Kiev lacked the aircraft and equipment needed to use them.

Trump said the weapons in question were highly powerful, but that Ukraine did not have the necessary platforms or supporting systems to employ them.

The US president also said Washington had built up a substantial stockpile of weapons over the past six months. He added that under Joe Biden, Ukraine received more munitions than the US military used during the war with Iran.

Earlier in July, speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said Washington could provide Kiev with a license to produce missiles for Patriot systems.

During a later visit to New York, Zelensky again discussed the possibility of obtaining such a license with Trump. According to Zelensky, the two sides reached concrete agreements.

Reports later emerged that a facility producing Patriot missiles intended for Ukraine could be located in Poland.
