Russia is rapidly building up stocks of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles for potentially larger strikes on Ukraine later in the autumn and during the winter, CBS News reported.
According to figures cited by the network, Russian factories may have produced around 1,200 Geran-4 jet-powered drones and another 800 Geran-5 UAVs in September 2026 alone. Monthly production could continue to increase.
Ukrainian military analyst Viktoriia Chekalina said Russia was able to accumulate between 450 and 700 attack and decoy drones between major strikes during the spring and summer. At the same time, Russian forces were using roughly 150 to 300 UAVs in a single large-scale raid.
Chekalina estimated that attacks during the autumn and winter could potentially involve around 1,500 drones in a single wave.
CBS News also noted that Russia’s use of relatively limited numbers of jet-powered drones has allowed it to conserve more expensive cruise and ballistic missiles.
Chekalina estimated that Russia may have accumulated around 130 ballistic missiles by August. She identified energy and heating infrastructure, along with factories and warehouses, as key potential targets during a winter strike campaign.
