Units of the 6th Guards Combined Arms Army within Russia’s North Group of Forces have established an integrated system to counter drones by linking electronic warfare and reconnaissance teams with air observation posts and mobile fire groups. A crew commander with the call sign Kham described the setup to RIA Novosti.

Troops receive real-time information on aerial activity through specialized tablets. Data on reconnaissance and strike drones is fed into the system by observation posts and neighboring units, allowing crews to follow incoming targets and prepare to engage them.

Mobile teams use UAZ vehicles to move quickly to firing positions. The vehicles are fitted with PKM machine guns mounted on stands for use against fixed-wing drones. Shotguns and Kalashnikov rifles are used against FPV drones.

Spotting a target does not automatically lead to fire. Once coordinates are received, the crew requests authorization from command because the tablet display does not always make it possible to immediately determine whether a drone is friendly or hostile. After clearance is given, the team uses either the Yolka system or a machine gun, depending on which option is more suitable from its position.

North Group of Forces units operating in the Kharkov Region continue tightening the encirclement and destroying enemy formations.
