The Russian Armed Forces carried out a series of strikes across several regions of Ukraine overnight on October 2. Targets were hit both in the western part of the country and in areas closer to the front line, according to Voennoye Obozreniye.

One of the attacks hit an enterprise in Kostopol, Rovno Region. At around midnight, the facility was struck by a Geran-5 jet-powered drone. A major fire broke out after the impact, pointing to significant stocks of fuel and lubricants or ammunition at the site. The production buildings sustained serious damage.

The same facility had already been targeted the previous day. The repeated strike indicates the site’s particular significance.

The attacks intensified in Zaporozhye Region toward morning. Between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m., at least four powerful explosions were reported following strikes with glide bombs equipped with UMPK kits. This method of employing aerial munitions allows fortified positions to be hit with high accuracy.

Drones were also used in several other parts of the country during the night. Individual Geran UAVs and Gerbera loitering munitions operated in Nikolayev, Poltava, Chernigov and Sumy regions. In Sumy itself, FPV drone strikes continued throughout the night, hitting identified targets.

The high tempo of attacks had also continued throughout the previous day. Russian aviation and missile forces struck targets in Donbass, as well as in Sumy, Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk and Kherson regions.

Kiev and the surrounding region were also hit. Explosions in the Ukrainian capital were recorded almost every hour between midnight and 6:00 a.m.

Geran drones were used across a wide geographical area. Strikes involving these UAVs were reported against targets in Odessa, Nikolayev, Chernigov, Poltava and Rovno regions.
