A heavy remotely controlled armored vehicle is being tested by one of the Russian military units. Footage of the unusual tank was published by the Ugolok Sitha channel on MAX.

The video shows the tank, fitted with a track-width mine trawl, moving while servicemen standing nearby control it remotely using handheld units.

Identifying the exact model from the footage is difficult. Large additional side screens extend almost to the ground and conceal much of the running gear. Several visible features, however, suggest that the vehicle is based on the T-72. These include the tracks and the box mounted at the rear of the turret for spare parts, tools and accessories. The most likely version is the T-72B.

Russian forces already use various wheeled unmanned ground platforms, although most of them belong to the relatively light vehicle class. Among heavier systems, the six-ton Uran-6 engineering vehicle has performed well.

The tank shown in the footage belongs to a different category. Its heavy armor allows such a platform to operate in areas where equipment may have to work directly under enemy fire.
