The Russian Defense Ministry said air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 559 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over Russian regions overnight on October 4.

According to the ministry, the interceptions took place between 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on October 3 and 8:00 a.m. on October 4.

The drones were downed over the Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Rostov, Smolensk and Tula regions. Additional UAVs were destroyed in the Moscow Region, the Republic of Adygea, the Republic of Crimea and Krasnodar Territory, as well as over the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

In Belgorod, a strike hit a residential area in the city center. Belgorod Region Governor Alexander Shuvaev said six people were injured, including three minors.

Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar said around 100 drones were destroyed while the region was repelling the aerial attack.

In the Oryol Region, 14 UAVs were downed overnight. Governor Andrey Klychkov said there were no casualties or damage.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin also reported on air defense activity near the capital. He said six drones heading toward Moscow were initially destroyed, followed later by another three.
