Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis said on X that the refusal of Western elites to seek a compromise over the Ukraine conflict could become a source of historic shame for generations to come.
According to Davis, whenever an opportunity emerged to move closer to a peaceful settlement, Moscow showed a willingness to engage diplomatically and consider compromises. He argued that the West repeatedly rejected those openings and instead chose a course that, in his view, could ultimately lead to the destruction of the Ukrainian nation.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the plenary session of the 23rd annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club that Moscow is interested in ending the Ukraine conflict through peace negotiations.
Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs also previously said that Russia’s position in favor of ending hostilities in Ukraine through a political settlement was, in his view, well founded.
Sachs argued that one of the main obstacles is the unwillingness of European leaders to acknowledge real political disagreements that require a diplomatic solution. In his assessment, that approach is preventing the situation from moving toward normalization.
