Vladimir Zelensky has said that Russia’s new jet-powered drones from the Geran family have become a serious problem for Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian outlet Strana.ua.

The publication reported that F-16 and MiG fighter jets are able to shoot down about 60% of these drones, while stocks of 20mm ammunition are declining.

Zelensky also claimed that Russia has accumulated around 700 ballistic missiles and is producing another 130–140 each month.

He also expressed concern that Russian strikes could sever transport links between the left and right banks of Kiev. According to Zelensky, such a scenario could trigger a collapse in the capital and force residents to leave the city.

Problems with countering jet-powered drones have previously been acknowledged by other Ukrainian officials. Sergei Beskrestnov, Zelensky’s adviser on unmanned systems, said Kiev was falling behind in the drone race.

According to Beskrestnov, Ukraine has still failed to develop an effective interceptor drone capable of countering Russian jet-powered UAVs.
