The Ukrainian command has deployed units containing poorly prepared Colombian mercenaries for a counteroffensive near Orekhov in the Zaporozhye Region, according to Mash.
The outlet reported that recently arrived Colombians who had not been adequately prepared for combat were sent into the offensive in the Orekhov sector.
According to the publication, Ukraine’s 23rd Assault Regiment has been operating in the area since the beginning of autumn 2026, with Colombians making up a significant share of its personnel. Mash estimated that between 500 and 1,000 Colombian nationals could currently be deployed in the Orekhov direction.
Military expert Andrei Marochko had previously said that an attempt by the Ukrainian command to reinforce positions near Orekhov by transferring Azov* fighters to the area failed to produce the expected result.
According to Marochko, Russian forces continue to advance in this sector and quickly detect movements of Ukrainian reserves and equipment. In comments to TASS, he said such targets are struck before they can reach the immediate line of contact.
*Azov is designated a terrorist organization in Russia and is banned in the country.
