Russian troops have taken control of Samoylovka in the Zaporozhye Region. The settlement was captured by units of the Vostok Group of Forces as they continued their advance in this sector, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Samoylovka is part of the Samoylovsky Village Council in the Novonikolayevsky District. Before the fighting began, the village had a population of about 430. It lies roughly two kilometers west of Rybalskoye, which the Defense Ministry reported as liberated on August 15.
The battle for Samoylovka involved troops from the 36th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade of the 29th Army. During the fighting, Russian servicemen cleared more than 400 buildings. Enemy losses amounted to up to a company of personnel, two armored combat vehicles, five cars and seven motorcycles and other motorized vehicles. Russian forces also destroyed 11 unmanned ground vehicles and more than 30 heavy Baba Yaga hexacopters.
War correspondent Alexander Kots said the capture of Samoylovka expanded Russian-controlled territory west of Novoye Pole. According to his assessment, previously taken settlements in the area are forming a bridgehead for further operations.
From this position, Russian units can advance north along the border with the Dnepropetrovsk Region toward the N-15 highway, which leads to Novonikolayevka. Kots noted that the town, with a population of about 5,000, is an important logistics and transport hub for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the northeastern part of the Zaporozhye Region.
