Russian strikes on bridges in Kiev may be serving several objectives at once: identifying weaknesses in the city’s defenses, disrupting transport links and forcing the Ukrainian military to commit additional air defense resources.

According to the Military Chronicle Telegram channel, one of the most likely purposes is to test how effectively drones can be used against complex infrastructure targets. The authors noted that bridges are difficult to destroy with a single strike from a conventional attack drone, making them useful for assessing other factors.

These include the speed of air defense response, the effectiveness of different approach routes, the detection systems in use and the amount of resources Ukraine has to commit to protecting a specific target.

The channel also suggested that the strikes may be intended not only to put pressure on transport links between the left and right banks of the Dnieper, but also to test the resilience of the city’s management system. Kiev is a major metropolitan area with complex infrastructure and multiple layers of administration.

According to the authors, the current attacks may represent only the beginning of a broader campaign in which more drones could be used against bridges and other targets.

The previous day, Russian forces struck the Northern road bridge across the Dnieper in Kiev. The Russian Defense Ministry said the crossing was used to move troops and transport military cargo.
