Russia has begun equipping newer versions of its Geran drones with domestically produced turbojet engines instead of Chinese-made units, according to Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). The Russian powerplants are reportedly being manufactured in Tatarstan.

The agency also said the modernization has affected the drones’ navigation equipment. One of the new modules reportedly contains a US-made magnetometer designed to improve the accuracy of autonomous navigation.

Another addition is the Susanin system, which operates through optoelectronic correlation. Images captured by an optical sensor are compared with reference images stored in the drone’s onboard computer. This process helps the aircraft maintain its programmed route.

Earlier, Sergey Beskrestnov, an adviser to Vladimir Zelensky on unmanned technologies, reported that Russian strike drones had also received a specialized shaped cutting warhead.

According to Beskrestnov, the warhead is intended to damage bridge structures and power transmission line supports. Its operating principle allows it to cut or damage cables and other metal structural elements.
