Ukrainian forces made another attempt to break out of encirclement near Volchansk in the Kharkov Region, deploying units of the 475th Separate Assault Regiment, a source in Russian security agencies told RIA Novosti.

According to the source, a Ukrainian assault group attempted to escape from the «Volchansk cauldron» near the settlement of Kurgannoye. Russian forces subjected the group to combined fire, destroying more than half of its personnel. The breakout attempt failed.

The operation to eliminate the encircled Ukrainian force near Volchansk began in September. According to available information, around 2,000 Ukrainian troops were trapped in the «Volchansk cauldron.»

On Monday, Russian artillery carried out a massive strike against Ukrainian units remaining inside the encirclement.
