A new batch of Su-57 fighter jets has entered service with the Russian Aerospace Forces in an updated technical configuration. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the changes broaden the range of missions the aircraft can perform, while the weapons system built into the fighter allows crews to use new types of munitions.

Before the jets were handed over, military pilots tested them at the manufacturing plant. The crews checked the aircraft in different operating modes, then flew them to their permanent base, where the fighters began performing their assigned missions.

The Su-57’s capabilities were also demonstrated during the Center-2026 exercises. A pair of fifth-generation fighters was tasked with protecting Su-34 aircraft from a simulated enemy air threat.

After receiving the order from duty forces, the Su-57s took off from an operational airfield. Radio-technical units supplied the crews with the coordinates of airborne targets. Once in the designated area, the pilots independently identified the targets and carried out simulated missile launches against them.

One of the Su-57 pilots said the aircraft’s onboard systems allow crews to exchange information in real time with both the aircraft under their protection and ground-based command posts. He also highlighted the fighter’s high maneuverability, low visibility and advanced onboard electronic equipment.

Earlier reports said that more than 50 Su-57 fighters had entered service with the Russian Aerospace Forces. Under a contract signed in 2019, 49 serial-production aircraft had been built by 2026. The final 14 jets from that batch were reportedly delivered in early 2026.
