US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the conflict in Ukraine is currently not moving toward a resolution.
According to Rubio, Washington is focused on finding a way to bring the conflict to an end. He said the United States is prepared to take part in settlement efforts and play a constructive role if an opportunity emerges to move closer to ending the fighting.
Rubio added that current trends do not indicate movement in that direction.
In September, the prospect of renewed negotiations was again discussed amid contacts between Washington, Moscow and Kiev.
After Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, presidential aide Yury Ushakov said the Russian army had made tangible gains and that Moscow remained confident it would achieve its stated goals.
Bloomberg later reported that Russia had tightened its conditions for ending the conflict and was seeking a settlement on Moscow’s terms.
In early October, Vladimir Zelensky also said the United States had proposed holding a trilateral meeting with Russia and Ukraine at a technical level.
