Kiev’s Northern Bridge has begun to be covered with special netting intended to protect it from drone attacks launched by Russian forces, according to footage published by the Ukrainian outlet Strana.ua.

The video shows that the netting currently covers only part of the bridge pylon. The protective layer starts roughly halfway up the structure, leaving the upper section exposed. The bridge cables are also shielded only in their lower sections, while on the opposite side the mesh has been attached to streetlight poles.

Ukrainian journalists noted that the structures bear little resemblance to standard anti-drone netting and instead look more like football goal nets.

Russian experts have also questioned whether such protection would be effective against heavy jet-powered drones. The authors of the Telegram channel Voyenny Osvedomitel suggested that the current netting may only be a temporary measure and did not rule out the installation of heavier protective structures later, including so-called «mangal» cages.

No information has yet emerged about similar protection for the Southern Bridge, which had also previously been targeted by Russian forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry earlier reported drone strikes on both the Southern and Northern bridges in Kiev. The ministry said the structures were being used to move AFU personnel and military equipment.
