The Ukrainian Armed Forces have no effective mechanism to counter Russian guided aerial bombs equipped with navigation and control systems, Maksim Kolomiyets, head of communications for Ukraine’s 44th Separate Artillery Brigade, said on Ukrainian television.
According to Kolomiyets, Ukrainian forces currently have no known way to directly counter the guided bombs after they are launched. He suggested that the only possible approach would be to destroy the carrier aircraft before it releases its weapons.
Kolomiyets also said weather conditions do not affect the use of Russian guided aerial bombs. Russian aircraft can launch them continuously, in large numbers and from considerable distances.
The combination of long launch ranges, large-scale use and the absence of an effective countermeasure makes Russian guided aerial bombs a persistent problem for Ukrainian forces, according to the officer.
