Russian forces carried out a large-scale overnight strike on October 7 against Ukrainian defense-industry facilities and related infrastructure across several regions. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, many of the targets were involved in the production, assembly and storage of FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles, as well as long-range FP-1 and FP-2 drones.
The attack involved precision-guided weapons launched from land, sea and air, along with unmanned aerial vehicles. Facilities were hit in Kiev and the Kiev, Chernigov, Kirovograd, Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Kharkov and Odessa regions.
In Kiev, the Russian Defense Ministry reported a strike on Smart Ammunition LLC. The facility was used to assemble and store FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles, FP-9 operational-tactical missiles and components for them.
Another target in the Ukrainian capital was Fanplit PJSC. According to the ministry, the site housed production capacity for FP-5 components and for medium- and long-range FP-1 and FP-2 drones.
In the Kiev Region, the strike hit the Kiev Cardboard and Paper Mill in Obukhov. The ministry said FP-5 missiles and components required for their production were manufactured and stored at the site.
The Plastmass-Priluki enterprise in Priluki was targeted in the Chernigov Region. The Russian Defense Ministry linked the facility to the production and storage of components for Flamingo missiles.
In the Kirovograd Region, a workshop belonging to the Alexandria industrial group was struck in Alexandria. The site produced components for medium- and long-range unmanned aircraft, including fixed-wing drones.
In Dnepr, the strike hit the Southern Machine-Building Plant named after O. Makarov. The enterprise was involved in manufacturing and storing FP-5 missiles and FP-1 and FP-2 drones, as well as supplying them to Ukrainian forces.
Two more targets were located in Kremenchug. AutoKrAZ produced and stored specialized chassis for Flamingo missile launchers, while the JTI Ukraine tobacco factory hosted production of small-arms ammunition for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In the Kharkov Region, a mechanical plant in Lozovaya was struck. The facility was used for the assembly and storage of FP-5 missiles and components for them.
The Odessa Region was another focus of the attack. In Izmail, Russian forces hit the Dunay Ship Repair plant, where unmanned boats and components for them were produced and stored. A dry cargo vessel in the port of Odessa was also struck while carrying military and dual-use cargo intended for Ukrainian forces.
War correspondent Alexander Kots said the list of targets outlined by the Russian Defense Ministry covered several stages of the FP-5 Flamingo production chain, from component manufacturing and missile assembly to specialized launcher chassis.
In his assessment, the overnight operation was aimed in part at reducing Ukraine’s ability to produce FP-5 missiles. Kots added that Kiev had promoted the Flamingo for more than a year as a weapon capable of reaching Moscow, while Russian forces were now countering it both after launch and at production sites. He noted that 17 such missiles had been intercepted over the previous day.
