Retired Colonel and military expert Anatoly Matviychuk believes the drones that attacked Perm on October 7 may have been launched from the Chernigov and Sumy regions.
He noted that Perm is located far from the Ukrainian border. According to Matviychuk, drones sent deep into Russian territory may be used to draw away air defense resources. He also did not rule out the possibility that some UAVs used in such attacks could be launched from inside Russia itself.
Speaking to aif.ru, Matviychuk said attacks on regions such as Perm could be carried out by sleeper cells and sabotage groups using drones launched from abandoned villages, dacha communities or trucks disguised as long-haul transport.
On the morning of October 7, air defense systems in the Perm region repelled an attempted Ukrainian drone attack. A drone alert was declared across the region, while residents of Perm reported hearing loud blasts. The first classes at educational institutions were canceled because of the UAV threat.
In total, air defense units destroyed 311 fixed-wing drones in Russian airspace overnight on October 7. Drone alerts were introduced in 12 regions.
