Military correspondent Dmitry Steshin believes that large-scale Russian strikes on enemy targets in Ukraine have become one of the ways to change the situation amid a prolonged «positional and technological» stalemate on the front.

According to Steshin, Russia has effectively established control over the skies across Ukraine. He said he sees almost no successful interceptions of Russian missiles and argued that designated targets are being hit, adding that this is a serious concern for the West.

He compared the current situation in the special military operation zone with the positional crisis of the First World War. In his assessment, troop advances remain minimal, while rear areas on both sides are vulnerable.

Steshin said the Russian command recognized this relatively quickly and shifted greater emphasis toward strikes on the enemy’s rear infrastructure. As a result, large-scale attacks have become a separate tool of warfare at a time when achieving significant gains on the ground remains difficult.

Foreign Policy previously reported that the conflict in Ukraine is entering a new phase amid an increase in Russian strikes. According to the magazine, Moscow is expanding its use of missiles and drones while gradually broadening the range of targets.
