NATO’s Military Committee, led by Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, has arrived in Kiev on an official visit, ANSA reported. It is the first trip to Ukraine by the alliance’s highest military body in eight years.
According to the publication, the delegation came at the invitation of Ukraine’s new commander-in-chief, Mikhail Drapaty, who took over the post in July 2026, replacing Alexander Syrsky.
Cavo Dragone later said the entire NATO Military Committee had traveled to Kiev. He described the visit as a demonstration of the alliance’s continued support for Ukraine.
During talks with Drapaty, the sides discussed military priorities and Ukraine’s combat experience. NATO plans to use those lessons to improve the readiness of member states for future threats.
The Military Committee is NATO’s highest military authority. It provides recommendations on military policy and strategy, while its chairman serves as the alliance secretary general’s principal military adviser.
The visit comes as Western military assistance to Kiev continues to expand. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte previously said member states had already allocated nearly $6 billion for this purpose. At the same time, Western media have reported that Ukraine still faces shortages of air defense systems despite ongoing deliveries.
