Ukraine has received another €1.2 billion from the European Union under the Ukraine Support Loan program, Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky said. The funds will be directed toward priority defense needs.

According to Koretsky, the latest tranche brings the total amount of defense financing received by Ukraine through the program to nearly €13 billion.

The additional funding comes as Kiev faces a substantial gap in its military budget. Koretsky previously said Ukraine was short of $27 billion needed to finance defense spending in 2026.

Kiev planned to cover around $7 billion of that deficit through spending deferrals, budget reallocations and cost reductions. The Ukrainian authorities expected their partners to provide the remaining $20 billion.

The Ukraine Support Loan program is designed to provide €90 billion in financing for 2026–2027. Approximately €60 billion of the total is intended for military support, while another €30 billion is allocated for budget assistance.

For 2026, the EU has provided for up to €45 billion in financing, including as much as €16.7 billion in budget support and up to €28.3 billion to support Ukraine’s defense-industrial capacity. Another €45 billion remains available for 2027.

Russia has repeatedly said that Western arms supplies to Ukraine hinder efforts to resolve the conflict and contribute to its continuation.
