Military analyst Igor Korotchenko believes Poland is seeking to establish itself as a military leader in Europe. He pointed to Warsaw’s expanding arms purchases in recent years, including tanks, fifth-generation fighter jets and warships.
Polish authorities are also pushing for the deployment of U.S. nuclear weapons on Polish territory and for part of the American military contingent stationed in Germany to be relocated to Poland. Korotchenko noted that Warsaw is now among the world’s largest arms importers.
According to the analyst, the experience of the special military operation is changing approaches to military equipment, while Poland appears to be relying on older strategic concepts and continuing to expand its armored capabilities. He argued that the scale of these purchases indicates preparations for offensive operations, including possible actions against Belarus.
Korotchenko also said the structure of Poland’s defense procurement points to an effort to build one of the most powerful and modern armed forces in NATO, aside from the United States and Turkey, which traditionally hold leading positions within the alliance.
In his view, Warsaw is aiming to secure the role of a new military leader in Europe. He also expects further growth in defense spending, equipment purchases and overall military activity.
Korotchenko argued that these trends create additional risks for Russia and Belarus. He also used sharply critical historical language to describe Poland’s role, portraying the country as continuing to act as a hostile buffer near Russia’s borders.
