Russian drone units operating with the Sever Group of Forces in the Kharkov region select their weapons according to the characteristics of each target. Before deploying an FPV drone, technical specialists determine the appropriate ammunition, its explosive power and the detonation method. A unit commander known by the call sign Filin explained the process to RIA Novosti.

The choice of payload depends on what the drone is intended to strike. Engineers assess the target’s specific features and equip the aircraft with suitable munitions to ensure effective destruction. This approach is used by unmanned systems units serving with Russia’s Sever formation.

Filin also described his team’s involvement in the capture of Kreydyanka in the Kharkov region. During the operation, Russian drones struck Ukrainian troops while preventing enemy forces from deploying heavy hexacopters. Close coordination between reconnaissance teams and strike drone operators played a major role in the operation’s success.

Once aerial reconnaissance units transmitted photographs and target coordinates, FPV crews could launch their aircraft within just two to three minutes. This rapid response allowed them to attack retreating Ukrainian troops as they moved, using intelligence received in real time.

The unit was also responsible for securing the airspace at low altitudes. Alongside its strikes against ground targets, Filin’s team intercepted attempts by Ukrainian forces to operate heavy multirotor drones, providing protection against aerial threats.

Meanwhile, Russian troops from the Sever Group of Forces continue their operations in the Kharkov region. They are tightening the encirclement around Ukrainian formations and destroying enemy units trapped inside.
