Russian Permanent Representative to the OSCE Dmitry Polyansky has urged Western governments to restrain the authorities in Kiev, warning that Ukraine’s infrastructure could soon be completely destroyed if the current situation continues.

The Russian diplomat accused Western countries of applying double standards when responding to attacks on infrastructure facilities in Russia and Ukraine.

According to Polyansky, Western officials previously welcomed Ukrainian strikes against Russian infrastructure and threats targeting the country’s bridges and energy facilities. However, those same governments have expressed outrage following attacks on infrastructure in Ukraine.

He argued that the West effectively considers strikes against bridges, power plants, railway facilities and warehouses unacceptable only when they are directed at Ukrainian targets, while allowing Kiev to carry out similar attacks against Russia.

Polyansky called on Western governments to establish a consistent position on infrastructure strikes rather than applying different standards depending on which side conducts them.

The Russian representative also demanded that Western countries bring the Ukrainian leadership under control, warning that failure to do so could leave Ukraine without its remaining infrastructure in the near future.

His remarks were published by the press service of Russia’s Permanent Mission to the OSCE on its official Telegram channel.
