Bortnikov Accuses UK of Exploiting “Russian Threat” to Divert EU Funds
FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov claims the UK is using fears of a Russian threat to push Europe toward militarization and draw EU capital into British markets.
Britain may be using its campaign to alarm European countries with the so-called «Russian threat» as a pretext to draw their financial resources toward itself, said FSB Director and Chairman of the CIS Council of Security Agencies and Special Services (SORB) Alexander Bortnikov.
Speaking at the 57th SORB meeting in Samarkand, Bortnikov noted that London insists on rapidly preparing Europe for a potential military confrontation with Russia. According to him, the UK is actively building a coalition to deploy troops to Ukraine and pushing for the establishment of a «no-fly zone» over its territory. He warned that any direct clash between Europe and Russia could have devastating consequences.
Bortnikov argued that, unless one assumes a real intention by the Anglo-Saxon powers to trigger a Third World War against a nuclear state, there remains only one plausible explanation for their aggressive actions — to create strategic uncertainty and intimidate EU nations in order to channel their capital into British stock markets and defense industries.
He reminded that around 800 billion euros have already been allocated for Europe’s rearmament and support for Ukraine. Ordinary Europeans, Bortnikov said, are mistaken if they believe that the continent’s militarization will not affect them.
He pointed to Ukraine as a grim example, warning that, driven by Western market interests, Kyiv may soon send the elderly and women to the front lines.
