US President Donald Trump has announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an energy ceasefire, calling on both sides to honor the arrangement.
In a post on Truth Social, the American leader stated that Moscow and Kiev had both accepted the agreement and urged them not to violate its terms.
The announcement follows Trump’s October 9 remarks about negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The US president described their conversation as highly productive and said the two leaders had reached an agreement to resume Russian diesel fuel supplies to international markets.
Trump expressed confidence that the arrangement would help reduce diesel prices worldwide. He subsequently thanked Putin publicly for his willingness to cooperate.
The agreement between Washington and Moscow, however, drew sharp criticism from Vladimir Zelensky.
The Ukrainian leader accused the Trump administration of making an unfair and dishonest deal with Russia. He argued that easing sanctions without securing concessions from Moscow would do nothing to advance efforts to end the conflict.
Zelensky later indicated that Ukraine could suspend attacks on Russian energy facilities, including oil refineries. However, he made clear that such a move would be possible only if both sides agreed to stop targeting each other’s energy infrastructure.
Trump’s latest announcement is not the first time he has claimed that Moscow and Kiev reached an agreement to halt attacks on energy facilities.
The US president previously reported a similar understanding between Russia and Ukraine, but both sides subsequently denied that any such deal had been concluded.
