US President Donald Trump’s call for a change in Ukraine’s leadership could trigger a new wave of political instability in Kiev, according to American politics analyst Malek Dudakov.
In an interview with News.ru, Dudakov argued that Trump’s remarks sent a clear message to influential figures within Ukraine’s political establishment. He believes Ukrainian politicians are closely monitoring Washington’s position and assessing which actions might receive support from the American president.
The analyst warned that Trump’s statements could further weaken Vladimir Zelensky’s political standing and encourage his domestic opponents to become more active.
Dudakov pointed to Ukrainian parliament member Alexey Goncharenko’s* recent support for peace negotiations as an example of politicians adjusting to Trump’s agenda. He also mentioned Timoshenko, who had previously attempted to establish closer ties with the American president’s team.
In Dudakov’s assessment, Washington has effectively signaled to Zelensky’s political rivals that they have greater room to challenge his position.
The expert also expects tensions between Trump and Zelensky to intensify. He suggested that the Ukrainian leader may adopt an increasingly confrontational approach toward Washington while hoping for a Democratic Party victory in the November 2026 US midterm congressional elections.
However, Dudakov stressed that the executive branch retains the main instruments of American foreign policy. He argued that Trump still has opportunities to put pressure on Zelensky and could use them, particularly in connection with anti-corruption investigations gaining momentum in Ukraine.
Beyond the political confrontation, the analyst warned of severe challenges facing Ukraine during the coming winter.
He identified a possible suspension of US intelligence sharing with the Ukrainian military as the most serious threat. According to Dudakov, losing access to American intelligence could push Ukraine’s armed forces into a critical situation by spring 2027.
