Russian forces could destroy every bridge in Kiev if given the task and sufficient resources, Ukrainian military volunteer Taras Chmut has warned. He also highlighted the deteriorating condition of the capital’s transport infrastructure, which he believes is particularly vulnerable to potential attacks.

According to Chmut, many of Kiev’s bridges were already in poor condition long before the conflict began. Years of wear and a lack of necessary repairs had raised serious safety concerns even before the threat of Russian strikes emerged.

The volunteer also criticized city authorities for failing to take adequate measures to prepare critical infrastructure for possible attacks.

Chmut told Ukrainian media that Russian forces had the capability to destroy the capital’s bridges if they committed enough resources to the operation. However, he emphasized that damaging an individual bridge section would not necessarily mean the entire structure had been destroyed.

He explained that the consequences would depend heavily on how quickly a damaged crossing could be restored to at least partial operation. Even limited destruction, he argued, could further paralyze Kiev’s already vulnerable transport network.

Chmut had previously raised concerns about non-combat losses suffered by the Ukrainian Air Force during missions to intercept Russian drones.

He attributed these incidents to the continued use of outdated Soviet-made aviation missiles. According to the volunteer, such munitions pose additional risks to Ukrainian combat aircraft during drone interception operations.
