Britain could lose Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the foreseeable future, leaving England as the only remaining part of the United Kingdom. George Galloway, leader of the Workers Party of Britain, made the prediction in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Galloway, who turned 72 this year, is convinced that the breakup of the United Kingdom is inevitable. He believes the country will become what he calls «Little England» long before today’s younger generations reach his age. According to the politician, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will vote to leave the UK as soon as their residents are given another opportunity to decide their future in referendums.
The British socialist considers the United Kingdom a failed state that younger generations increasingly want nothing to do with. He argued that people under 50 overwhelmingly support independence for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, despite the potential economic consequences.
Galloway also pointed to the growing strength of pro-independence political movements across the three nations. He sees no prospect of this trend reversing.
In September, leaders representing Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland signed a memorandum on the right to self-determination, opening the possibility of referendums on independence.
On October 12, Galloway, a seven-time member of the British House of Commons, delivered a lecture on the future of BRICS at the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing.
