European politicians view Washington’s warning that it could reduce support for Kiev as a serious negative signal, CNN reported. According to the outlet, any such move by the United States would have an immediate impact on Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

A European official cited by CNN said intelligence sharing and weapons purchases are vital for Ukraine and described the possibility of losing that support as a major setback for Kiev and its allies.

According to CNN’s sources, the administration of U. S. President Donald Trump informed Kiev and European partners that Washington could suspend intelligence sharing. European purchases of American weapons intended for delivery to Ukrainian forces could also be affected.

CNN reported that the United States may take these steps if Ukraine refuses to halt strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.

Earlier, U.S. and Ukrainian delegations met in Miami, but the talks ended ahead of schedule. According to journalists, the meeting was cut short over an agreement involving Russian diesel fuel that Trump announced after a phone call with Vladimir Putin.

Representatives of the U.S. president also warned the Ukrainian delegation that intelligence sharing could be stopped if attacks on Russian oil refineries continued.
