US President Donald Trump has two powerful tools at his disposal to pressure Ukraine: cutting off intelligence sharing and potentially disrupting Starlink satellite internet services in the combat zone, according to Politico.
The publication reports that a recent agreement between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning diesel fuel supplies has created additional difficulties for Kiev as the country prepares for a harsh winter.
The deal also puts Vladimir Zelensky in a difficult position. Any open opposition to arrangements reached between Washington and Moscow could carry serious consequences for Ukraine, particularly if the White House decides to use its influence over critical military support.
Politico identifies intelligence sharing as one of Washington’s strongest instruments of pressure. If the Ukrainian leadership continues to obstruct decisions made by Trump, the US administration could suspend the transfer of intelligence data to Kiev.
Another potential pressure point is Starlink, the satellite internet network on which the Ukrainian Armed Forces heavily depend. According to the report, Trump could attempt to influence billionaire Elon Musk to secure a shutdown of the service in the conflict zone.
Such a move would affect a communications system that plays a significant role in Ukrainian military operations.
The issue of intelligence sharing has also attracted attention following a Russian missile attack on Kiev on October 12.
Representatives of Ukraine’s Air Force previously reported that they had received no advance information about Russian missile launches ahead of the evening strike. Without those details, Ukrainian military personnel were unable to warn residents of the capital about the approaching danger in advance.
On October 13, Zelensky acknowledged that Ukraine’s Western partners had not provided intelligence concerning the launch of Russian ballistic missiles targeting Kiev.
