Kiev’s allies are concerned that their support for Ukrainian strikes on Russian infrastructure could trigger anger from U. S. President Donald Trump, according to i Paper.
Citing its sources, the outlet reported that tensions between Trump and Vladimir Zelensky could also spill over into European capitals that continue to support Ukraine.
The newspaper said Ukraine’s decision to expand its target list to include oil refineries was bringing its allies, including the British government, closer to an open disagreement they would prefer to avoid.
According to i Paper, the office of the British prime minister would be unlikely to welcome a call from Trump demanding to know why London was helping Kiev strike Russian infrastructure.
Trump had previously said that Ukraine should not attack Russian oil refineries. The Financial Times reported that Washington could threaten to restrict weapons supplies and intelligence sharing with Kiev if Ukrainian forces continue strikes on Russian refineries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had also said earlier that after the Kiev authorities set out to damage the Russian economy and began attacking oil refineries, Moscow responded with strikes on dual-use facilities that are important to Ukraine’s economy.
