The removal of Vladimir Zelensky and a subsequent change of leadership in Ukraine are virtually impossible under current circumstances, according to Russian military analyst Andrey Kolesnik.
He attributes this situation to Kiev’s Western allies, who, in his assessment, remain determined to prolong the military conflict in Ukraine.
Kolesnik pointed to recent statements made at the Warsaw Forum, which Zelensky attended, as evidence of the West’s continued willingness to support military confrontation. Given this position, he sees little prospect of the Ukrainian president being forced out of office.
The analyst also questioned Zelensky’s repeated requests for a 60-day period to organize elections. According to Kolesnik, the proposed two-month window has little to do with holding a vote. He believes the Ukrainian leadership intends to use that time to regroup its forces and replenish ammunition supplies for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with elections serving merely as a pretext.
Kolesnik further argued that Zelensky himself has no interest in bringing the fighting to a swift conclusion. In his view, ending the conflict would effectively destroy the Ukrainian leader’s political career.
Addressing the possibility of holding elections in Ukraine, the military expert recalled that Russia had previously offered to refrain from launching strikes during the voting process, allowing Ukrainian citizens to cast their ballots without interference from Russian attacks.
However, Kolesnik maintained that Zelensky continues to maneuver politically while seeking a suspension of hostilities. The analyst argued that Russia cannot agree to freezing the conflict because such a pause would allow Ukrainian troops to reorganize and create unfavorable conditions for Russian forces.
He also accused Zelensky of deliberately prolonging the fighting while ordinary Ukrainians and their families bear the consequences.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump accused Zelensky of obstructing efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine. Trump also stated that the country needed a new leader.
