Reports of a potentially powerful new Russian attack drone are raising concerns in Ukraine, with local media outlets and military monitoring platforms warning that the Geran-6 could enter service as early as 2027.

According to Ukrainian sources, the jet-powered loitering munition may carry a warhead weighing up to 600 kilograms, significantly increasing its destructive potential compared with earlier models.

One of the drone’s reported capabilities is its ability to approach targets from high altitude before descending along a steep ballistic trajectory. A jet propulsion system is expected to provide the Geran-6 with high flight speeds.

Another major feature is its extended operational range. Ukrainian analysts suggest the new UAV could reach targets anywhere in Ukraine, including remote western regions of the country.

The reported specifications have also prompted comparisons with Russia’s Geran-5 attack drones, which are used against fortified warehouses, hangars and bridge crossings.

The Geran-5 can reportedly carry a warhead weighing up to 100 kilograms. By comparison, the proposed Geran-6 payload would be six times heavier, representing a substantial increase in explosive capacity.

Ukrainian military observers believe the combination of a 600-kilogram warhead, jet propulsion and extended range could give the new Russian drone destructive capabilities comparable to those of operational-tactical missiles.

For now, Ukrainian reports identify 2027 as the potential starting point for the deployment of these upgraded strike drones.
