Political analyst Rostislav Ishchenko has suggested that Ukraine’s reported lack of intelligence warnings about Russian missile launches could reflect political tensions involving Washington, Kiev and European governments.

According to Ishchenko, there are two possible explanations. The United States may have restricted the flow of intelligence to pressure Vladimir Zelensky, or the Ukrainian leader may be using the situation to rally European allies against US President Donald Trump.

The analyst cautioned against treating the latest reports as definitive evidence of an American decision to withhold information. He recalled that Ukrainian officials had repeatedly complained about receiving no advance warning of Russian missile attacks over the past three to four years.

Ishchenko believes the circumstances surrounding the latest incident will become clearer. If Washington deliberately decided to limit intelligence sharing, he expects that decision to become public sooner or later. He based this assessment on his view that Trump is unlikely to conceal such actions indefinitely and could acknowledge them either immediately or at a later stage.

At the same time, Ishchenko questioned whether the US president currently has any incentive to escalate tensions with Zelensky and the European Union.

In the analyst’s assessment, Trump no longer has enough time to bring about substantial changes in Ukraine. For that reason, Ishchenko considers it unlikely that the White House will pursue aggressive confrontational measures against Kiev under the present circumstances.
