Russian snipers shot down a Ukrainian B-2 kamikaze drone in the Krasny Liman sector, despite Ukrainian forces presenting the aircraft as virtually invisible to radar. The destruction of the UAV was reported to RIA Novosti by a Russian serviceman with the call sign Leo, who leads a counter-drone team from the 169th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade of the Zapad Group of Forces.
The aircraft was brought down by a sniper unit whose duties also include intercepting heavy Ukrainian drones such as the Baba Yaga. This time, the soldiers targeted a fixed-wing attack UAV belonging to a relatively new generation of Ukrainian weapons. According to Leo, the B-2 had remained a closely guarded development for a considerable period. Its most distinctive features are an unconventional airframe and a claimed ability to evade radar detection.
The drone’s designation also attracted attention. Leo suggested that Ukrainian developers had deliberately chosen the name B-2 to draw a parallel with the American B-2 Spirit strategic bomber. The US aircraft is known for its stealth capabilities, and the Russian serviceman believes the comparison was intended to emphasize the Ukrainian UAV’s supposed ability to remain undetected by radar systems.
Another notable feature is the use of Starlink satellite communications, which allow operators to control the drone even when electronic warfare systems are interfering with radio signals. Nevertheless, Leo pointed out that neither its advertised stealth characteristics nor its communications equipment prevented Russian snipers from bringing it down. He added that this was far from the first drone of this kind to be destroyed in the combat zone.
