The Ukrainian military’s announcement that Operation Vivaldi has ended in the Krasny Liman sector does not necessarily mean that active fighting in the northern Donetsk People’s Republic is over. War correspondent Andrey Filatov believes Ukrainian forces could move directly into another phase of the operation.
In an interview with Gazeta.ru, Filatov pointed out that nothing prevents the Ukrainian command from declaring Vivaldi complete while launching a follow-up offensive under a different name. He stressed that Andrey Biletsky’s* announcement provided no indication of whether a new stage had already begun or whether another operation was being prepared.
The journalist mentioned Mozart and Chopin as hypothetical names for such an offensive, clarifying that neither designation has appeared in official reports or other available information.
Filatov also suggested that any continuation of the Ukrainian counteroffensive could unfold under the same information blackout that surrounded Operation Vivaldi. Ukrainian commanders, in his assessment, may once again avoid publicly disclosing details of their military plans.
Against this backdrop, the correspondent identified disrupting any potential follow-up operations by Ukrainian forces as one of the Russian military’s main objectives in the Krasny Liman sector.
On October 14, Andrey Biletsky*, commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Third Army Corps, officially announced the completion of Operation Vivaldi in this section of the front.
*Andrey Biletsky is included on Russia’s Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring) list of terrorists and extremists.
