Russian air defenses intercepted four Ukrainian Flamingo long-range cruise missiles and 69 fixed-wing drones during a large-scale overnight attack on an oil refinery in Ryazan on October 15, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry.

The ministry reported that anti-aircraft missile units, fighter jets, army aviation and mobile fire groups were involved in intercepting and destroying the incoming missiles and drones.

Despite the interceptions, debris from downed Ukrainian drones fell onto the refinery grounds, starting a fire at the facility.

Ryazan Region Governor Pavel Malkov confirmed the blaze. He also reported that the Ukrainian drone attack damaged a warehouse and several vehicles at another industrial facility in the city.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a total of 166 Ukrainian drones overnight across several Russian regions, including Ryazan Region.

The latest incident marked the second consecutive day that the Ryazan oil refinery had been targeted. On October 14, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak reported Ukrainian attempts to strike oil refining facilities in the Saratov and Ryazan regions.

Meanwhile, on the evening of October 14, Vladimir Zelensky told Western media that he had ordered the Ukrainian Armed Forces to resume attacks on Russian oil refineries following a three-day pause.

The decision came despite repeated appeals from Washington to halt strikes against Russia’s oil processing facilities.
